Okay, I'm going to break my "this is fandom ONLY" journal thing this time, because...I HAVE OFFICIALLY GRADUATED FROM UNIVERSITY!
*happy tears*
There were times when I wondered if this day would ever come, and now, it is here! JOY.

On a completely unrelated note, I have been watching copious amounts of Kyou Kara Maoh, and....is it wrong that Josak sometimes sorta slightly reminds me of Chiaki?
Somebody shoot me.
Of course, that just gives me images of Chiaki crossdressing...XD
There's a fic in that somewhere, I swear.

In other news, rebelintosanity and I have forged a pact to switch fandoms for a fic. Which means, I will be attempting to write a Phoenix Wright fic involving Edgeworth and Gumshoe in some way in the near future. o.O Seeing as how I've played, like, two sections of a game and know practically nothing at all about PW...it shall be very interesting.

On the other hand, this means that rebelintosanity will be writing a MoB fic with Haruie and Kagetora.  :D Can't wait to see how that turns out!

So I watched "Gohatto" (Taboo) on youtube today.
For those who don't know, it's a Japanese film set in the bakumatsu period (end of the samurai in the mid-19th century) in which a beautiful young man joins the local militia and wreaks havoc among his love-crazed fellow samurai.

Ha, I actually watched it thinking that it might help me understand Kagetora's situation a little better in his first life. I was thinking about Cerise Tennyo's "Tsukiyo" the whole time, to be honest. True, it's set in a much later period, but the main theme is the same. An incredibly desirable youth who inadvertantly (ahem) drives the men around him mad with passion, and brings trouble upon himself as a result. It also has a very interesting little twist in it.

It made me laugh at some inappropriate moments, as well, because I kept imagining Kagetora's possible reaction to some of the lines the guys were using. "I don't want to die before making love to you," or "I would give my life to hear the nightingale's song after having held you in my arms all night long."
XD I can just imagine Kagetora's expression.

Ah, warning for anyone who may watch it- there is some smut at one point.

YOU GRADUATED! I'm so proud of you.

BTW, if you want to put a link to an LJ in, it's lj user="name", in HTML bracket thingies (greater than and less than signs).

I want something that takes place before Edgeworth gets framed for murder but after Phoenix kills his perfect record. I'll send you the script for cases 1-3 and 3-4 (3-4 has major spoilers about Dahlia but I've spoiled everything for you anyway), copypasta the flashback from Edgeworth-in-Paris where Gumshoe is helping Edgeworth not freak out about what happened in 3-4*, and link you that Edgeworth/Gumshoe "GUMSHOE GETS SHOT AND EDGEWORTH CONFESSES HIS LOVE" fic.

Got any links for Takaya!Kagetora or Haruie?

* There are two amazing scenes in that fic. The Edgeworth and Gumshoe one, and the one where von Karma seduces ten-year-old Miles to the dark side. It's like NO MILES DON'T GO WITH HIM HE'S A BAD MAN AND WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP. Once Edgeworth left America and turned into Poshworth I lost interest, because Poshworth is fucking boring.

Ah, thanks for the lj tip.

SEND ME THOSE LINKS!

I will scrounge around and send you some links tonight. :D
I'll probably err on the side of too many, just warning you.

Congratulations!

Ah, Gohatto. When I saw it I kept imagining Kagetora as a sort of observer thinking "For some reason this all seems familiar" In addition to Tsukiyo its reminiscent of the latest translated chapter of Mirage of Beginnings that Karura has up on fanfiction.net.
lady_nara From: [info]lady_nara Date: May 23rd, 2008 08:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
XD Okay, now I'm imagining the same thing. Unfortunately, since it was a 1999 movie, Takaya would have been...26, and hence already dead. So we can't hypothesize that he might have seen it within canon, shucks.

Do you mean it's reminiscent because Megumi sucuumbed to Kagetora's pheromones? Or did you mean the seductive "Kagetora" in the latest chapter of Mirage of Changes?
From: [info]meganinhiding Date: May 23rd, 2008 11:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
In Mirage of Beginnings Kagetora was remembering all the bushi following him around who would have been glad to be the elder brother in a shudo relationship with him.

Congrats on your graduation ^o^

Josak? like Chiaki? (scratch chin) hm..... and what will Wolfram be? Yuzuru? (although Yuzuru isn't as noisy as Wolfram X3)

"Of course, that just gives me images of Chiaki crossdressing...XD"

hahaha! im also trying to finish off wathing the 2 seasons of 78 episodes and i swear when i finally pull myself to turn off the dvd player and get some sleep, all i see are Yuri and the gang when i closed my eyes! sigh... what do i expect? i've been watching since early afternoon until 11pm.

and oh! did you know Japan aired the 3rd Season last march? im hoping Conrad doesn't have a girlfriend. (im jealous over Julia and Yuri already, i can't handle jealousing another character. sigh...)

but now that you mention about it, Josak's and Conrad's comradeship reminds me of Karura-san's fic on Mirage of Changes. we see how they work together despite their difference in attitude. Conrad, formerly known as Lion of Lutenberg, can be mirror to the aloof Naoe 200 years ago. and Josak's initial distrust to the Maou Heiga in the early episodes can be similiar to Chiaki's bickering on Takaya in the novel/anime.

o///o Gohatto? i'll go see right now! (runs off to watch at youtube)

Thank you :)

Yeah, I'm only up to episode 33, actually, but I sneak off to watch another every time I have a spare minute.

Josak's attitude reminds me of Chiaki somehow. That sort of flippant, disrespectful way of relating to people, particularly a superior. Take Josak's comment during the tournament, for example, that he likes Yuri best when he's not acting like a king. Reminds me of the way Chiaki gets along better with Ougi Takaya than the more refined and aloof Kagetora-sama.

Good point about Josak's relationship with Conrad being a little like Chiaki's relationship with Naoe. Friends despite great differences in temperament. They're also similar in that both Josak and Chiaki know that Conrad and Naoe place their loyalty to their respective leaders above their connection with their best friends.

Yikes, Wolframm as Yuzuru? I'd say they're more like opposites!

Conrad doesn't really seem much like Naoe to me except in two areas. First, the position Conrad holds as protector, emotional support, teacher, etc., is similar to the function that Naoe performs for Takaya. And secondly, the scarier, intense side that Conrad starts to show about the time that Gwendal's cousin shows up, where he'll warn Yuri (while smiling!) that he'll do whatever is necessary to keep Yuri safe, even if Yuri protests or thinks that it's wrong. That is pretty Naoe-like, to me, especially later in Mirage after Naoe comes back from the dead.

you once said what if naoe and conrad exchange jobs?

imagine - "seme exchange program between KKM and MOB for a month"

the result?

naoe : kageto--- your highness, its about time we leave.

demonKing!yuri : how dare my lapdog order me around? (totally changed attitude and influenced by naoe's angst and unstable character)

naoe : my apologies for being so bold my lordhip (sarcastic tone) but let me remind you that i never did wanted this `chains` around me.

demonKing!yuri : do you want me naoe? then stop being such a phatetic dog and beat me. that is the only time i'll submit to you.

naoe : .......... (glares)

[on the other hand with Conrad and Takaya]

Takaya : Conraaad~ lets play baseball again! (ran across the lawn)

Conrad : heiga-sama, watch your step!

takaya : i'll race ya! whose late at the baseball field is a rotten loser (laughs the ran off)

Conrad : (laughs and chase after the teen)

(the backround scene all light colors and father-son happy moment)

am i making sense?

LOL

erah_haruna205 From: [info]erah_haruna205 Date: May 27th, 2008 07:10 am (UTC) (Link)
but on the other side if we follow the novel, takaya will get a crush on conrad and then conrad would feel weird (cuz he's a hetero) so thats not good. and also with naoe around, demonKing!yuri might become the next bitter kagetora! and what if theres gonna be the next yami sengoku ala KKM version? aiyah, this seme exchange thingie isn't a good idea. lets just leave the ukes with their semes untouch.

Oh, yes, and did you watch Gohatto? I've been dying to discuss it with someone. The more I think about it, the more convoluted the plot seems.
skinintheway From: [info]skinintheway Date: May 26th, 2008 08:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I've been dying to discuss it with someone. "
my line, exactly :)
I was recommended this movie by a fellow kendoka because of the kenjutsu used in it...and was quite surprised that it's more of a piece about shuudou :)
As much as I enjoyed the sword-fighting scenes (though perpetually going like 'dude, what are you doing with those feet...ever heard of kiai?...what do you have that kodachi for?...' see, that's how kendo deforms people...) I was really fascinated by the character of Sozaburo(and my mind keeps changing his name to Saburou). But I was so captivated by his own perversity and enigmas surrounding him, that Kagetora didn't even come on my mind when watching, until later on I searched for the similarities.
I watched the movie over and over again, each time coming up with new theory about who killed whom and why...I also noticed, that the English subtitles can be a bit misleading because their cryptic talking had more to it than words would show, so I tried to figure out more, relying on my admittedly poor Japanese...only to end up with the conclusion, that Sozaburo probably really is that evil...
I wonder what was your impression of him?
lady_nara From: [info]lady_nara Date: May 27th, 2008 06:43 am (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, I pretty much came to the same conclusion. Sozaburo= sociopath.

No, he's not really anything like Saburo at all. Whereas Sozaburo likes the attention and enjoys manipulating the men who desire him (including pretending some weakness to draw them in), Saburo is all BACK OFF and I R SUFFICIENT UNTO MYSELF.

The only real similarity is their situation, and the way the men respond to them. I also could definitely see Saburo pulling the maneuver Sozaburo did of sleeping with a sword and whipping it out when Tashiro tried to sneak into his bed.

I am still puzzling over why Sozaburo was weak to Tashiro.
The first time, when his superior noticed that he must have been throwing their fight and theorized that they were lovers, it could be that he was just trying to give people that exact impression.

But when Sozaburo was trying to kill Tashiro at the end there, it didn't really make sense. One might think that
he was performing for their audience, but to what purpose? No reason that I come up with really fits.
